Currant is an unpretentious bush. If you follow simple rules of care, the plant will surprise you with an excellent harvest of tasty and healthy berries.

But beginners in gardening may have questions at the stage of planting a bush.

Planting dates

First, you need to decide on the timing of planting.

As experts note, currants can be planted immediately after the snow melts, when the ground is still damp but has already warmed up.

It is advisable to do this before the buds open on the shoots. But if you bought a seedling with a closed root system, you can plant it later, when there are leaves on the branches.

  • 6-9, 13-15, 17 May.

Landing rules

First, you need to inspect the seedling. It should not have any damage. We are talking about pests, diseases and even mechanical damage.

Before planting, it is recommended to wrap the roots in a damp cloth and place them in a bag.

As for the landing site, the area should be well lit. Definitely not suitable are places on the site that are in the shade, lowland or where water accumulates, swamp.

The soil should be light and fertile, neutral acidity.

The hole can be dug 50 by 50 cm. It should be filled with a useful mixture of a bucket of humus, 300 grams of bone meal and 200 grams of wood ash. It is advisable to mix in deoxidized high-moor peat.

After planting, the soil should be watered generously and mulch should be spread.
