The secret to a rich strawberry harvest is simple: do not allow conditions in which the bushes will become sick and wither.

Some gardeners call this crop capricious. But this is true only if you do not know a number of subtleties of cultivation.

What strawberries don't like

1. Lack of rejuvenation and replanting. About once every 3-4 years it is worth dividing the bushes. This is done at the end of summer or beginning of autumn, as well as in the spring. If you ignore the procedure, then over time the harvest will be less and less.

2. Shade. Strawberries are a sun-loving crop. For active fruiting, they need more light and warmth.

3. Cold and unprotected roots. If there is no snow and the temperature has dropped to -5 … -8 °C, it is important to insulate the plantings.

4. Overheating and dry soil. Summer residents have one answer to cold and drought - mulching. In the warm season, you can use compost, straw, nettles or pine needles.

5. Poor soil. The ideal soil for strawberries should be loose and contain many nutrients. Therefore, before planting, the soil is loosened, compost, ash or complex mineral fertilizers are added.
