Finding someone who doesn’t eat onions – maybe not fresh, but as part of a variety of dishes – is perhaps an impossible task.

Of course, you can buy the vegetable at any grocery store.

However, the bulbs that are grown independently are much more delicious, aromatic and “nuclear”.

Before you start growing onions in your own garden, you should choose the right variety.

This is not as easy to do as it might seem at first glance, because there are a huge number of varieties.

Today, the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh suggests talking about Dutch hybrids, which are very popular in the middle zone and more northern regions.

These varieties are simply designed for cool climates, which are characterized by short summers and temperature fluctuations.

It takes about 100 days for such onions to ripen, and the average weight of the fruits is from 80 to 180 grams.

And here are the hybrids themselves, or rather, some of them, because there are quite a lot of similar varieties:

  • "Stuttgarten Riesen";
  • "Senshui";
  • "Sturon";
  • "Bamberger";
  • "Red Baron";
  • "Centurion";
  • "Stardust".
