Tagetes, or marigolds, are flowers that decorate our gardens and vegetable gardens until the very frosts.

These plants, according to the gardeners who grow them, are endowed with amazing qualities.

Thus, they are often used in the fight against numerous pests, including aphids, mole crickets, scale insects and others.

In addition, marigolds are capable of secreting antibacterial compounds known as "thiophenes."

For this reason, marigolds have no place near legumes - these substances are destructive to the nodule bacteria on their roots.

Perhaps because of marigolds' ability to kill insects, they were given the title of the flower of death.

For example, in Latin America there is a legend according to which this plant attracts the souls of the dead.

In this regard, images of bright orange flowers are often found on paraphernalia made for the Day of the Dead celebrated here.
