You won’t need to take any extra steps – there are only two – and the gooseberry will bear fruit all summer long, to the envy of your neighbors.
Gooseberry is a light-loving plant and likes to have the necessary conditions created for it.
Gooseberries, if not looked after, grow quickly. The plant will need timely feeding and watering. Only in this case will sweet, juicy and large berries grow.
Firstly, gooseberry bushes are thinned out in a timely manner: all unnecessary things are removed and thickening is not allowed. This must be done so that the berries receive as much sunlight as possible.
Intertwined shoots, old and broken branches, thin, diseased ones - everything unnecessary is removed in a timely manner and is subject to pruning.
Secondly, gooseberries need fertilizing: at least four times per season.
At the beginning of the season, when the leaves are just opening, mix one teaspoon of urea and 1 tablespoon of nitrophoska in 5 liters of water and add a bucket under each bush.
During the flowering period, the following feeding is needed: stir 1 teaspoon of potassium sulfate into 5 liters of water and pour two buckets under each bush.
The solution will work more effectively if you first scatter it around the woody area around the bushes.
During the fruiting period: 5 liters of water and 1 teaspoon of nitrophoska, 1 tablespoon of potassium humate are mixed and added under each bush, 2 buckets.
At the end of the season – September-October – superphosphate and potassium sulfate are added under the bushes, taking into account the dosages recommended by the manufacturer.
