Why pear trees don't bear fruit for a long time: what gardeners need to know

There may be several reasons why a pear tree does not bear fruit for a long time. One of them is the variety chosen.

Some bear fruit after 10-15 years. Incorrect planting also delays the formation of ovaries.

If the root collar is allowed to be deepened, the tree will try for a long time to simply survive. The plant can freeze if the seedling is not deepened enough. And the fruits will appear on it 5-7 years later than with the correct planting.

A pear tree needs cross-pollination to set fruit. That is, a pear tree of a different variety must grow nearby. Therefore, you need to either immediately purchase 2 varieties of pears for planting (they are planted at a distance of about 4 m), or graft 1-2 different varieties onto the tree.

A pear tree that bears fruit annually requires mandatory fertilizing. Nitrogen fertilizers are needed for vegetation, and potassium and phosphorus fertilizers are needed for the development of fruit buds (a handful of a mixture of potassium and phosphorus fertilizers is poured into holes made with a stick 20 cm deep).

Sprinkle with earth. It is better to apply nitrogen fertilizers in the spring so that by mid-summer, when the fruit buds of the future harvest are set, they are absorbed. Under this condition, there will be a good harvest next year.

The fruiting of a pear is affected by the planting location. If a seedling grows in a shaded area, it will not develop properly. The lack of sufficient light delays the appearance of fruit by several years. The ideal location for a pear is a sunny area protected from the north wind and drafts.

Pests and diseases also cause the absence of fruits. For example, the blossom beetle simply deprives the pear of the opportunity to bloom, eating away the flower buds. To combat it, adhesive belts are tied to the trunk while it is still snowing.

Timely spraying will protect against codling moth and viral diseases. The first is carried out before flowering. The second should coincide with the appearance of ovaries. For spraying, insect and fungal preparations are used.
