Strong, green and berry-strewn gooseberry bushes cannot but please the summer resident who diligently looked after the plant.

But sometimes, although beautiful, lush bushes are pleasing to the eye, they are in no hurry to produce a harvest.

In practice, massive and voluminous plants can ruin dreams of buckets full of berries.

It's all about one rule, the violation of which deprives the harvest. If you neglect this nuance, then time, effort and money will be wasted.

An expert of the online publication Belnovosti , agronomist and author of the blog Conscious Gardening Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told how to properly care for gooseberries.

Bushes need to be trimmed every autumn. Old branches do not give a rich harvest, but they greatly overload the plant. Ideally, leave no more than 20 branches.

If you don't prune the gooseberry, it will look massive, but over time it will become clear that you shouldn't expect a harvest.

Autumn pruning is necessary not only for gooseberries, but also for any other bush. For example, this procedure is necessary for raspberries, currants, blackberries.
