Experienced gardeners have named an alternative to conventional mulch, which perfectly protects the root system of plants.

Mulching is an important procedure for many gardeners. It protects plantings from the cold, retains moisture, and saturates the soil with nutrients.

Most often, summer residents use sawdust, humus, pine litter, straw, hay. However, buckwheat husks have become a real discovery for gardeners.

This option has both advantages and disadvantages. Thus, compared to some other materials, the husk is cheaper. The husk lets water through well, but at the same time dries quickly.

Everbearing strawberries grow well under buckwheat husks. But the layer should be at least 10 cm. The main disadvantage is that the husks are light, so the wind easily blows them away, gardeners said.

The dual opinion does not prevent some gardeners from using buckwheat husks as mulch. Some mix it with other materials.
