Smart summer residents carry out one procedure not only in winter, but also in spring, thanks to which they significantly increase the harvest.

We are talking about mulching. On the eve of winter, plants are covered to protect them from the cold. But in the spring, this procedure is also relevant.

It not only strengthens the bushes, but also improves the quality of the harvest. The secret is that raspberries like moist soil, and mulching allows you to maintain the indicator at the desired level for a long time.

However, this is not the only advantage of mulching. There is another nuance due to which gardeners mulch raspberries in the spring.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert at the online publication Belnovosti , an agronomist and the author of the blog Conscious Gardening, explained why it is worth mulching raspberries after the snow melts.

This procedure prevents weeds from appearing and protects berries from pests. The number of wormy fruits decreases or there are none at all.

As a material for mulching, you can choose coniferous sawdust, manure, fallen leaves, hay, and straw. There are many options, so the summer resident is free to determine what is more accessible.

If sawdust is used, it should be remembered that it absorbs nitrogen, which is often low in the soil if appropriate fertilizers have not been applied. Therefore, in such cases, nitrogen supplements are necessary.
