Part of the correct orchid care program is pruning. But many gardeners do not dare to do this, considering it unnecessary.
Let's figure out whether it is necessary to trim orchid flower stalks and what, in this case, depends on the type of plant.
It is important to know that repeated budding on one peduncle is only possible if we are talking about phalaenopsis or paphiopedilum.
In fact, there is no consensus on this matter. It happens that the flower stalk dries up, or it can remain elastic for some time and nothing else happens to the plant.
Therefore, you need to act approximately like this.
1. If the flower stalk is green, it is better not to touch it, and after 6 months, if there are no signs of life, it can be shortened, leaving a stump of up to 3 cm.
2. If the flower stalk begins to dry out, do not touch it and wait until it dries out completely, and then cut it off, leaving the same 2-3 cm.
3. If part of the arrow has turned yellow and the process has stopped for several months, the stem is cut below 2-3 cm from the upper living bud and the cut site is treated with brilliant green, activated carbon or iodine.
Immediately after the flowers have faded, pruning is carried out on the Miltonia, Miltassia, Cambria and other orchid species.
