Without spring fertilizing, cultivated plants have a hard time throughout the season. Fruit perennials bear fruit worse, get sick more often, and ornamental plants bloom, but do not please.

We will tell you how to feed peonies in the spring so that the flowers serve as a decoration for the flower bed.

Here, a lot depends on the age of the bush, as well as the type of fertilizer used.

Age of flowers

The first 2 years after planting the seedlings, compounds are introduced that stimulate the development of the above-ground part and roots. Additives that are introduced for abundant flowering are not used.

Bushes 3-7 years old are fed moderately, using complex fertilizers.

Peonies older than 7 years are considered old, and therefore they need additional nutrition.

Timing of feeding peonies

In spring the procedure is carried out twice.

1. In early spring, after young shoots begin to grow, high nitrogen supplements are added.

2. The next portion of fertilizers is applied after 2-3 weeks. This time, the emphasis is on potassium, phosphorus, and nitrogen is applied to a minimum.

What to feed

For the first time, urea can be used for young plants. It is added after the shoots grow and leaves begin to appear. 40 g of urea should be dissolved in 10 liters of water and used for spraying.

During this period, organic matter is added to adult plants. You can prepare a 1:20 mullein solution. You can also add 15 g of urea per 1 square meter and potassium fertilizers in dry form.

Old bushes are fed with the same mineral compounds (urea and potassium), but only 15 and 20 grams per square meter of soil, respectively.

The second feeding is carried out using potassium humate (5 g per 10 l of water) for young plants.

Adult and old flowers are fed at the beginning of the budding stage with complex fertilizers (the composition must include 10% nitrogen and 15% potassium and phosphorus).
