To get a rich harvest of table beets, you need to take good care of them. Prepare the area in the fall, intended for growing beets the following year.

Add organic fertilizer, rotted humus, chicken manure, compost and other plant residues and mulch the soil until spring.

In the spring, remove the mulch from the plot, make rows and sow sprouted beetroot seeds. Leave at least 15-20 cm between plants in the bed and 25-30 cm between rows.

Beets have multi-sprout seeds, so several plants grow from one seed, and to be on the safe side, 2-3 seeds are taken, so a whole bush emerges from the ground.

To get sweet and large table beets in the fall, you need to thin them out. Leave not one beet stalk, but two. So that they do not become very large, and so they will be moderate, medium-sized, just what you need.

Insufficient or excessive moisture also affects the quality and size of root crops. Therefore, water your beds as needed and do not forget to loosen the soil after each watering.

Disadvantages of growing beets:

  • fresh manure cannot be added;
  • Excess nitrogen fertilizers cause beets to grow gnarled, pale in color, and with white veins;
  • Acidic soil is not suitable for beets, the soil pH should be from 6.5 to 7.5. Add peat, chicken manure, acidic fertilizers or grow cruciferous green manure in the beet area.

After the beets have sprouted, after 21 days, feed them with the following solution: dissolve 400 grams of wood ash and 1 tablespoon of table salt in 10 liters of hot water.

A boron deficiency in the soil can also reduce the taste of beets.

It is recommended to fertilize beets with boron at least once a season. To do this, dissolve 10 grams of boric acid in 10 liters of warm water. Or, to quickly add sugar to beets, prepare the following concentrate: dissolve 2 tablespoons of boric acid in 4 liters of water.
