Growing high-quality tomato seedlings is unthinkable without proper seed sowing.

An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh listed the most common mistakes that gardeners often make in this process.

1. Inappropriate timing for sowing tomatoes for seedlings

Summer residents who are in a hurry to start growing seedlings and planting the seeds of the crop in the soil as early as February often forget about the need to use additional lighting, which is why the seedlings often stretch out.

Conversely, due to late sowing, the seedlings simply do not have time to grow to the required size by the time they are transplanted into a greenhouse or open ground.

2. Ignoring pre-sowing seed treatment

To get rid of pathogenic microorganisms, which can certainly be found on the seed coat, it is worth disinfecting the seed material.

The only exception is purchased seeds of varieties and hybrids in a colored shell that have already been processed.

3. Incorrectly selected soil

Purchased soil cannot serve as a guarantee of quality, so sometimes seeds do not germinate in such soil, and if they do germinate, they grow poorly.

There is a way out – buy high-quality compositions or “improve” them with the help of fertilizers.
