There are several additional conditions that allow you to harvest a rich garlic crop.
The quantity and quality of garlic heads depend on the soil condition, weather conditions and varietal characteristics of the planted crop. All this must be taken into account when preparing for spring planting.
Basically, summer residents are guided by the weather and climatic features of the region. The main thing is that by the time of planting the soil has warmed up to 5-7 degrees Celsius.
If the weather is unstable, garlic is planted at the end of April or the beginning of May, at the same time as other cold-resistant crops. There is no point in waiting, since later planting will affect the quality of the harvest.
2. According to popular belief, the best time to plant garlic is Onion Day (May 5).
The best shoots and harvest will be given by cloves weighing 20-30 grams. It should contain 10-20 cloves, which should retain their basic taste qualities.
1. Early harvest (85-90 days) is provided by the variety "Sochinsky 56" (up to 1 kg per square meter of bed); "Antonik" (about 1.3 kg per sq. m); "Petrovsky" (about 0.8 kg from the same area). Also, good characteristics (do not bolt, are stored well and bear fruit well) are possessed by the varieties "Abrek", "Victorio", "Aleysky" and others.
2. The best varieties that yield a late harvest (100-130 days) are ‘Gulliver’ (more than 1 kg per meter), ‘Orlovsky’, ‘Novgorodsky’.
But the main thing in this case is not the characteristics, but the acclimatization of the variety to the climatic features of the region.
