When harvesting garlic, you must not damage the heads to avoid infection. Then you need to keep it in the sun for a while to dry and disinfect it.

Some gardeners immediately cut off the roots and tops of garlic.

Afterwards, it is transferred to a dry and warm room, attic or shed with good ventilation for final drying.

Methods of storing spring garlic

Glass jar

Burn the bottoms of the garlic using a candle flame or a gas burner.
Next, put it in a sterile glass container, leave the neck open and transfer it to the kitchen cupboard. Such garlic can be stored for at least 2-3 months.

Flour

Pour flour into the bottom of a three-liter glass jar, place the burnt garlic heads on top, add flour again so that it completely covers the garlic, and fill the jar to the top. There should be flour on top.

Cling film and sawdust

Wrap the head of garlic in two layers of cling film, the bottom should be open. Then put it in any box, fill it with wood chips or sawdust.

Salt

Place the garlic heads in plastic or cardboard boxes, sprinkling each layer with salt. Store it in a cellar, the temperature inside which should be 3... 5 °C.

Net

Weave wreaths of garlic braids or place them in a vegetable net or nylon tights, and hang them from the ceiling in a draft.

Cloth bag

Sew a bag from thick natural fabric and put the heads of garlic in it, tie them with a rope and hang them from the ceiling or between the frames.

Linen bag and polyethylene

Place the garlic in linen bags and put plastic bags on top, leaving them open. Store in the kitchen and air the contents once every 7 days.

Soil

After harvesting, dry the garlic well, place it in plastic bags, tie them carefully and bury them in the soil in your garden bed on a hill.

To do this, dig a hole 35-40 cm deep, insert a bag of garlic, cover it with sawdust on top, then cover with soil.

You can store it here until spring, and you can dig it up as soon as the soil thaws.
