Often on forums dedicated to gardening, you can find either a question or a complaint, which is that the potato did not please with the harvest and instead of round tubers, oval and elongated ones were dug up.
According to the expert of the online publication "Belnovosti", scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnaya , the change of the varietal form to spindle-shaped, elongated is the first sign of the degeneration of the variety and weak immunity of the potato.
Of course, summer residents who find themselves in this situation should not sit idly by.
The first thing you need to do is buy new varietal material. Make sure that the potatoes are not large - about the size of a selected chicken egg.
When choosing a variety, focus on one that was bred for a specific region.
The reason why this rule should be followed is that zoned varieties are more resistant to diseases and pests specific to a particular location.
In the first year, plant new potatoes in a separate, small area.
In the second year, the harvest should be planted - also in a separate area. Then it is worth buying a new variety (the same) and planting it in a small bed at the same time.
In the third year, you will have enough planting material to plant the main potato plot. In the same year, you need to plant varietal potatoes from the garden in a separate plot and, with the onset of the next year, renew the planting material again.
This way you can make the potato cycle continuous, which in turn means that the annual harvest will be outstanding.
