To prepare currants for fruiting in the new season, you need to complete 10 important steps in a certain order.
We will tell you where to start, how to act and how to finish.
1. Remove last year's leaves from under bushes and other plant debris to get rid of overwintering pests.
2. Before the buds swell, treat with boiling water. If later, you can ruin the bush.
3. Carry out sanitary pruning of the bush, removing branches damaged by wind and frost, cutting down to a living and healthy bud.
4. Perform formative pruning of the bush, which helps to increase the yield, improves the taste of berries, and prevents fungal diseases.
5. Treat the bush with Bordeaux mixture or copper sulfate, but do not use fungicides together with the organic matter – the fertilizers will die.
6. Then you need to carry out pest control treatment with Iskra or Karbofos, etc.
7. The next step is fertilizing. Add a complex fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. You can add additives separately, but the main thing is not to overdo it.
8. When flowering begins, fertilize with a solution of boric acid.
9. When the ovaries appear, feed with phosphorus and potassium - diammophoska or wood ash.
10. After harvesting, fungicide treatment is required.
