One of the fundamental aspects of proper farming is the correct calculation of the seed sowing depth.

It does not matter whether you sow for seedlings or directly into the ground. If you do not calculate, the seeds will most likely not germinate or germinate, but with a delay, which will affect the yield.

There are general recommendations regarding the depth of seed sowing, but there are times when general recommendations should not be taken into account.

What does the sowing depth depend on?

This is the composition of the soil, which can be light or heavy. Again, it depends on whether the sowing is done on seedlings or in the ground, and also on the size of the seeds and the characteristics of the crop itself.

And only after this can we remember the general rule, which states that sowing is carried out to a depth of 2 diameters (or heights) of the seed.

In detail, each culture has its own preferences.

1. For carrots, the recommended sowing depth is 1.5-2 cm, the distance between rows is 8-10 cm. Beets and radishes are sown at 1.5-2 cm. The distance is 30-40 cm.

2. Zucchini and squash seeds are planted 4-5 cm deep, maximum 6 cm, leaving 80 cm between rows and 40-50 cm between plantings. Pumpkins are planted 2-3 cm deep when planting seedlings or 4-5 cm for open ground.

3. Cucumbers for seedlings are sown at a depth of 1.5-2 cm. In beds, the depth is already 2-3 cm, with a distance between rows of up to 70 cm.

4. Onions are planted to a depth of 2 cm, leaving 25-30 cm between rows.

5. White cabbage for seedlings 0.5-0.7 cm, cauliflower and broccoli 1 cm.
