Growing a good tomato crop is a troublesome business, but it is worth it, because a home-grown product is incomparable with a store-bought one.

To get pleasing results, you can use the German method of planting. It is available even to novice gardeners. For the work you will need: plastic buckets and inexpensive fresh fish.

Procedure

  1. Mark the holes.
  2. Cut the bottoms out of the buckets, leaving a kind of cylinder, and bury them in the soil to a third of their height.
  3. The holes should be thoroughly watered and 3 small fish should be placed at the bottom of each.
  4. Sprinkle everything with a small layer of soil and plant tomato seedlings.

What is good about this method?

The main advantages include: ease of watering (water does not spill over) and protection (the design protects plants from some harmful insects).

Landing distance

As a rule, tomatoes are usually planted in rows.

  • Low-growing. The optimal interval between rows is 35-40 cm, between seedlings - 15.
  • Tall. Rows - 60 cm, seedlings - 25-30.

Deadlines

For the middle zone, the normal time for planting tomatoes in beds is considered to be the first half of May. But polyethylene or agrofibre is stretched over the seedlings.

It is risky to leave it without covering material, as there is a risk of recurrent frosts.

This is only permissible towards the end of the month, and even then it is better to cover the seedlings at night.
