How many times should you treat an apple tree for pests in the spring: this is what professional gardeners do

As is known, apple trees are a desirable delicacy for numerous pests and pathogenic fungi.

According to the expert of the online publication Belnovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , spring processing of an apple orchard consists of three stages.

1. The first treatment is carried out at the stage of “dormant buds”.

The best time to carry out the procedure is March or April, when the snow melts. Despite the fact that most insects are still asleep (except, perhaps, the apple blossom beetle), spraying certainly won't hurt. In addition to eliminating parasites, the gardener also has the goal of destroying the pathogens of scab, powdery mildew, moniliosis, etc.

2. The second time, spraying of apple trees should be done “on the green cone”.

By this time, the buds are already green and ready to bloom. Summer residents still struggle with fungi and do not forget about the notorious flower beetle, as well as aphid larvae and leafhoppers.

3. The third treatment is carried out in the “pink bud” phase.

Just before flowering begins, it is worth protecting the plantings from pathogens causing fruit rot and scab, as well as leaf rollers and codling moths.
