In addition to vegetable crops, you need to remember about sowing seeds for seedlings of berry crops. Moreover, there are some representatives that are best sown in January.
You don’t have to rack your brains too much – mid-winter is perfect for growing strawberry or wild strawberry bushes.
Those who have already tried will probably say that it is easier to buy ready-made seedlings. Experienced gardeners will say that their own seedlings are more reliable: they are stronger, more stable and more fruitful.
The seeds of these crops are small - this must be taken into account. Therefore, a mandatory condition is sowing in nutritious, light and loose soil.
The composition should include humus, peat and ash.
Before sowing, the soil should be baked in the oven in case it is affected by fungus or other pests.
It is better to sow seeds in cups, having previously treated the containers and the seeds themselves with a solution of potassium permanganate. Treatment with a growth stimulator will not hurt.
Particular attention should be paid to varietal characteristics, because many seeds require stratification by cold or heat. In the case of cold, plant seeds are placed in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks, after wrapping them in a damp cloth.
It is very difficult to calculate the sowing depth – it should not be more than 2 millimeters. Then the seeds are sprinkled with a thin layer of soil. The soil is lightly irrigated from a spray bottle, and then the cups are covered with cling film.
The preparations are left in a room with an air temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, and when the leaves appear, the temperature is lowered to 18 degrees Celsius.
The seedlings can be transplanted into the greenhouse at the end of April.
