Magnificent and multi-colored, and also double gladioli will decorate any flowerbed.
After flowering, it is important for the plant to grow a bulb for future flowering next year.
Then, at the end of September, dig them up, dry them, put them in a cardboard box and leave them in a dry and cool room.
To get a lushly blooming gladioli flowerbed, it is important to observe some nuances for their correct planting in the ground.
When you buy gladiolus bulbs, pay attention to their appearance. They should be young, voluminous, no more than 3 cm, have no signs of disease, and no external damage.
The height of the bulb should be slightly less than its diameter and a small bottom. Then carry out pre-sowing preparation of the bulbs. To do this, 30 days before sowing, remove dry last year's husks, rotten and disease-damaged specimens from the gladiolus bulbs.
Disinfect the selected healthy material. To do this, dip it in a 0.3% solution of potassium permanganate, and then lay them out in one layer with the bottom down in a lighted place with a temperature of about 27 degrees to speed up the awakening of the buds and their rapid germination.
Carry out pre-sowing soil preparation. For this, it must be neutral, loose and dug to a depth of 20 cm.
Then evenly distribute the following fertilizer over the surface: 10 kg of rotted humus, 40 g of ammonium nitrate, 30 g of potassium salt and 50 g of superphosphate per 1 sq. m of the plot. When the soil on the plot is too heavy, mix it with sand.
As soon as the soil on the plot warms up to a depth of 15 cm to 10 degrees Celsius, start planting gladiolus bulbs in it. The planting time usually falls in the middle to late spring months. Everything will depend on the weather conditions in your region.
The planting pattern of gladioli is of great importance. The distance between bulbs should be 15 cm, and between rows about 25 cm.
This will allow the plant roots to receive the necessary nutrients, and the wide row spacing will provide maximum sunlight and good ventilation.
Plant the bulbs in well-moistened soil so that they have enough moisture to grow. First, water the dry soil and then plant the plants. Do not plant the bulbs too deeply, as this can slow down the growth process and delay further flowering. The roots will begin to rot, and this will lead to the death of the entire plant.
Plant gladiolus bulbs with the already grown shoots facing upwards and sprinkle them with soil, without pressing around, so as not to disrupt air exchange. Then water the bed between the rows and cover with light agrofibre or other material to protect the plantings from recurrent frosts.
When the summer heat comes, water the plantings regularly, at least once every 7 days, in the amount of 10 liters of water per 1 sq. m of the bed. To do this, make shallow grooves between the rows and pour clean water there.
Next, sprinkle them with soil so that the water from the grooves does not evaporate as much. From planting the bulbs to full flowering, 70-100 days should pass, everything will depend on the quality of the seed material and care for it.
