Gardeners face this problem when the soil in their garden is not very suitable for planting.

It is impossible to drive a shovel into such soil, and the harvest is meager and tasteless.

There are several ways to improve the soil so that it becomes loose and soft.

Sanding

If your garden plot is solid clay or loam, the best solution is to add sand. When adding sand for digging, use coarse-grained river sand. Its quantity will vary depending on the density of the soil on the plot. Thus, on loam, add up to 25 kg of sand per square meter.

Additives such as perlite, vermiculite, and dolomite flour loosen the soil well.

Organics

When applied, organic additives will saturate the soil with moisture, improve its composition, and nourish plants with useful substances.

Compost, fermented sawdust, peat, and manure are used as such fertilizers.

Mulching

It will help to retain moisture in the soil, improve the structure, and reduce the amount of weeds. The protective layer in the garden is created from different materials. The most popular are grass, straw, shavings, or bark.
