There is a calendar for applying fertilizers to vegetable crops, but at the same time there are situations when plants fall outside this schedule.
It is important to be able to determine the moment when plants require an additional portion of nutrients. We will tell you about these signs using carrots as an example.
1. If the shoots or tops have turned yellow, pale or growth has slowed down, this is a sign of nitrogen deficiency. If the opposite is true (excess nitrogen), then the tops will grow lush and powerful, and the development of root crops will slow down. For the same reason, the vegetable will be full of nitrates.
2. If the foliage has turned purple and the root crop does not grow or has become very hard, then the carrot lacks phosphorus. An overdose of phosphorus also disrupts nutrition.
3. If the tops turn brown and the color of the root crop is uneven, then there is a lack of potassium. An overdose slows down the growth of carrots, the tops begin to darken.
4. When the tops turn yellow and fall off, magnesium needs to be added.
5. Disruption of the root system development can be caused by a lack of boron; for the same reason, the tops stop growing.
If we talk about the schedule, carrots are fed during planting, after the emergence of seedlings, together with thinning and a couple of weeks before harvesting.
Organic additives include infusions of rotted herbs and other traditional additives. As for mineral fertilizers, ready-made products that can be purchased in stores are mainly used.
