Not just frost: fruit trees face another threat in early spring

Early spring is considered an important time for all gardeners who check how the trees have survived the winter.

Some of them are faced with a problem. Plants die after wintering, and summer residents blame it on frosts or bright spring sun.

But the expert of the online publication Belnovosti , agronomist and author of the blog Conscious Gardening Anastasia Kovrizhnykh believes that the probability of trees dying due to cold weather is minimal.

In spring, fruit crops may not wake up for another reason. In March, the bark of trees may crack.

During this period, the sap begins to flow in plants. If the bark has cracked, then without prompt assistance the tree may simply dry out.

Special attention should be paid to apple trees, pear trees and grapes. They can wake up late, so gardeners sometimes rush, thinking that these plants did not survive the winter.

If the tree bark is cracked, it must be removed, cleaned down to the undamaged surface, and then the damaged areas must be covered with a special agent.
