How to Plant Potatoes Under Hay: A Clever Method Without Turning the Soil

It is best to plant potatoes in soil that has wintered under a layer of hay and snow. In this case, the hay turns into a good substrate.
In the spring, the hay needs to be mixed with a pitchfork or rake.
Next, we put it in holes made at a distance of at least 50 cm from each other. Sprinkle wood ash on top, or other fertilizers, and a mixture of humus and soil or whatever we have on top.
On top we add a layer of mulch made of fresh hay or straw.
When the time comes, we plant potatoes. After that, there will be no need to hill or weed the bed.
As for watering, you need to look at the weather. Under such a "fur coat" the soil will be protected from moisture evaporation, but if there is no rain for a long time, you will have to water a month after planting and again when flowering begins.
