How to Choose a Pot for Repotting Houseplants: A Professional Approach

Flowers grown on windowsills require regular care in the form of watering, fertilizing and soil renewal.

An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh revealed the requirements that are imposed on pots during replanting.

Thus, you should avoid flowerpots that do not have holes in the bottom - due to the lack of drainage holes, excess moisture will stagnate in the soil.

Of course, the dimensions of the flowerpot should be such as to hold the required amount of soil and provide enough free space for the plant roots.

However, a container that is too large is not an option, so try to make the new pot about 3 cm larger than the previous one.

As for the material, experienced gardeners advise choosing ceramic and clay pots rather than plastic ones.

Despite the fact that plastic products are lightweight, durable and also inexpensive, they also have a significant drawback, namely the risk of overflow, since the material is not able to absorb excess moisture.

At the same time, by planting a violet or ficus in a ceramic or clay pot, you can be sure that such a container will absorb moisture, protect the plant from overheating or hypothermia, and also provide the roots with oxygen, because air circulates better in it.
