The biggest mistake gardeners make when whitewashing trees is painting the trunks of fruit trees only once a year.

According to the rules, the layer should be renewed twice a year - in autumn and spring, so that the trunk does not get burnt in winter and pests do not become active in spring. Here's how to prepare the best composition.

Painting mistakes

Some summer residents say that it is necessary to remove moss and lichen before painting.

Others claim that this is a waste of time and advise whitewashing as is. The fact is, supporters of this concept believe, that other fungi will take the place of moss and lichen, and perhaps even more dangerous ones. As for green growths, science has proven that they do no harm to the tree or the harvest.

However, it is hard to imagine a more serious mistake than refusing to whitewash. As well as whitewashing in the spring for the sake of beauty with ordinary water-based paint.

How to prepare a composition for spring

Prepare:

  • 1 bar of tar soap,
  • 1 kg of manure,
  • 200 g of copper sulfate,
  • 1 kg of clay.

All ingredients are mixed until smooth (the soap must first be grated and soaked).

The result should be a mixture that resembles sour cream in consistency.

It should be applied to the trunk from the ground up to the fork of the skeletal branches. It would not be superfluous to fix the trapping belt after the paint dries.

This is the only way to protect fruit trees from pests.
