For orchid lovers, a green coating in a pot is a common occurrence.

An expert of the online publication, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained that such a coating appears due to simple algae – exactly the same as those that can be found in an aquarium with fish.

Flowers forced to exist in such conditions very often slow down their growth and sometimes show signs of wilting, which can lead to the loss of the orchid.

This is why you should learn about the causes of algae in pots in order to prevent them from appearing.

As is known, only three factors are sufficient for active algae growth: water, heat and light.

Indirectly, the greening of pots can be affected by excessively large sizes of the flowerpot.

When choosing a “home” for a flower, remember that it adheres to the principle of “cramped, but not offended”, so it will be enough if the house can accommodate all the roots of the plant.

Finally, excessive moisture in the substrate and compacted soil also influence the formation of green plaque.
