Why Peonies Don't Bloom: 10 Reasons for Whims

It is not possible to immediately understand what agricultural technology errors are if you have no experience in gardening or floriculture.

But when it seems that everything on the flowerbed is done correctly, but there is still no result, then this is exactly the case. Let's try to figure out why peonies do not bloom and what needs to be done.

There may be at least 10 reasons for this in a plant.

1. If the plant is young, then you shouldn't expect much hope from a peony bush. It takes time to root, and therefore 2-3 years without flowers is not a problem.

2. Incorrect planting – includes not only the process of burying the roots, but also the choice of location. Peonies should not grow in a draft, where groundwater is close, and the soil should be mixed with parts of peat, compost (humus) and mineral fertilizers.

3. A plant can easily spend 4 or 5 years in one place. It is not worth interfering with the life of the roots more often - this only harms the matter.

4. You can also ruin everything if you divide the rhizome incorrectly when replanting flowers. At least 3-5 buds and several adventitious roots should remain on one "division".

5. When caring for peonies, stick to a watering schedule. This is especially important during the formation of buds. On dry and hot spring days, the bushes are watered daily.

6. In a rainy spring, the ovaries may begin to rot, so flower buds will not appear either. Here, treatment with a fungicide can help.

7. If there is a lack of nutrition, the plant will not have enough strength to bloom, so it is useless to expect anything more from it. Therefore, fertilizers are applied:

after the snow has melted and the soil has warmed up (compost or nitrogen-containing additives);

after two weeks, complex mineral fertilizers;

then during the budding period (phosphorus and potassium).

8. Don't forget that only woodlice, horsetails and other weeds like acidic soil. Not all cultivated plants survive in such conditions.

9. Of course, do not forget about pest control. These can be rodents, mole crickets, nematodes, which cause the roots to die.

10. And finally, elongated branches, wrinkled leaves or other physical changes indicate bush diseases. In this case, the plant will not only fail to bloom, but will also infect the entire garden.
