Trump Threatens BRICS Countries to Impose 100% Tariffs If They Abandon the Dollar
US President-elect Donald Trump has threatened BRICS countries with 100% tariffs on their goods if they abandon the dollar.
The politician published a corresponding statement on the social network Truth Social.
How Trump Threatened the BRICS Countries
Trump said the US would not sit idly by as the BRICS countries abandoned the dollar, and demanded that the BRICS countries commit not to create a new currency or support any currency to the detriment of the "mighty dollar."
Otherwise, the politician continued, the BRICS countries will face 100% tariffs.
And they will have to say goodbye to the idea of selling out to the wonderful American economy, the US President-elect wrote.
He added that any country that refuses to use the dollar as a currency will have to say goodbye to the United States.
Discussions about a single payment instrument for the BRICS countries have been going on for several years now.
On November 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at the Valdai Forum that it was too early to talk about a single BRICS currency.
