Apples are often called the “fruit of health” because they contain a large number of vitamins and antioxidants.
In addition, apples contain fiber, which stimulates intestinal peristalsis, has a beneficial effect on the heart and helps reduce cholesterol levels.
And they will actually do you good – only if you eat them correctly.
This means that it is absolutely not recommended to eat apples whole.
The reason is that the seeds of these fruits contain amygdalin, a deadly compound.
The substance, by the way, is present not only in apple seeds, but also in the seeds of cherries, almonds, plums and many other plants that belong to the genus plum.
Mild amygdalin poisoning is characterized by headache and nausea, while more severe cases are accompanied by cyanosis, convulsions, loss of consciousness. Sometimes amygdalin poisoning ends in death.
And although the amount of whole apples eaten that can harm health is not precisely determined, it is worth remembering that their seeds, albeit in small quantities, contain poison.
