As you know, when you put a countertop and a backsplash together in the kitchen, a gap forms between them – albeit a small one.

It needs to be closed, as designer Yulia Tychino , an expert from the online publication BelNovosti, explains.

Otherwise, if you decide to do without “masking”, the kitchen, unfortunately, will not be able to boast a beautiful appearance.

It's not just a matter of aesthetics: this gap, if left uncovered, will become a place where dirt and small debris can accumulate.

Very often, for this purpose, kitchen owners choose a plinth, which can be made of wood, plastic, artificial stone - the material depends on what the countertop itself is made of.

However, such a solution can confidently be called “last century”.

Instead of installing a baseboard at the joint, try not to bring the countertop to the apron, but to do the opposite - put the apron on the countertop.

In this case, the gap will be minimal and you can do without a baseboard, replacing it with a thin strip of silicone.

Earlier we talked about why an interior can look “cheap” .
