Home renovation requires thinking through a whole series of stages and subtleties.

If you can do it right, your reward will be a new home where you and your family can feel relaxed and comfortable.

But in any business, mistakes are made that spoil the impression and prevent you from enjoying the result.

Before you start your renovation, find out what you should pay attention to in advance to avoid the most common mistakes.

Mistake number one: saving at the expense

It is possible to save on materials. And even necessary. But it should be done wisely. Cheap materials of dubious quality will cost a pretty penny, since they will soon require repeated repairs.

And this is much more expensive than buying a more expensive and high-quality product right away. For example, cheap wooden floorboards can fail within a year. If there is severe deformation, the floor will have to be completely replaced, while expensive wood will last for decades.

If you want to save money, you need to do it on brands (there are not very popular, but reliable brands with moderate prices). You can save on the type of material.

It is better to buy high-quality expensive linoleum than cheap wood or low-quality laminate that will have to be replaced in a year. If, for example, a more expensive glue is recommended for a specific floor or wall covering, this has its reasons. Cheap glue may not cope with the task and you will have to re-do the repairs.

Mistake number two: looking only at today

Many people choose materials and install equipment based on the concepts of “I like it”, “I have it in stock”, and “it’s affordable”.

Rarely does anyone look into the future. How will a beautiful material behave in use? How much will you have to pay for electricity after installing this or that device? Will it be convenient to get to hidden communications if repairs are needed? Will cheap windows and doors be able to retain heat so that you don’t have to overpay for heating for many years?

Mistake number three: not having a plan

It is not difficult to do repairs on a physical level. The most difficult thing is to think through everything down to the smallest detail. It is necessary to make a plan in advance. Think about what exactly you want from the repair in visual terms, how to combine beauty with practicality, how much money it will take.

First of all, you need to get acquainted with the building materials market, study the characteristics of each individual material, and choose the most suitable option for you.

For example, if you cook a lot and are not very careful in the kitchen, then you should choose the most invulnerable furniture, countertops and flooring. Study reviews of brands and their products, figure out what you can save on and what you shouldn't.

Renovations often cost more than originally planned, so pay attention to your budget. If you hire professionals, insist that all agreements be put in writing.

A detailed project with a calculation of cost, volume of work and materials used is a must. When doing repairs yourself, it is also recommended to make similar lists to have an idea of the costs. This will help you plan your budget.
