For a room like a kitchen, you always want to choose beautiful finishing materials, furniture and textiles.

After all, the process of preparing and eating food in this room should bring pleasure and comfort.

However, in practice, some decisions turn out to be quite controversial and inconvenient.

Unsuccessful design solutions were listed by the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" in the field of design and interior design , Yulia Tychino .

Relief tiles

The decision to decorate the kitchen apron with relief tiles with a complex pattern. The accent made in this way on the work area looks good, but at the same time dirt, grease and water droplets will constantly get into the bends of such tiles. And washing tiles with relief from dirt is very long and difficult.

Therefore, it would be wiser to use smooth tiles with a pattern applied to their surface for facing the apron, or protect the existing relief tiles with a special transparent panel.

Curtains that are difficult to wash

The second solution, which also cannot be considered practical, is to hang beautiful curtains in the kitchen made of fabrics such as silk or cotton. They look very interesting and frame the window beautifully, but they also absorb the smells of cooking food, moisture and the same fat well (considering the fact that the stove is often placed near the window).

Don't want to do without curtains at all? Then find options made from synthetic fibers. For example, polyester is much easier and simpler to wash than silk.

Carpet

Of course, it is more pleasant to walk on a soft and warm carpet pile, and it looks much more impressive than standard linoleum or wooden boards. But be prepared for the fact that you will have to vacuum more often than required, and also beat the kitchen rug outside or dry clean it at least several times a year to get rid of food odors.

If we are talking about a kitchen, which is essentially a production area, it is better to abandon such a solution.

Table top made from a single piece of wood

Another bad decision is to install a dining table with a tabletop made from a single piece of wood. Unlike tables whose surface is made from pressed and glued together wooden slats, solid wood is quite capricious in maintenance: it does not like moisture, temperature changes, mechanical and chemical exposure.

If a large crack appears on such a tabletop, it will have to be replaced entirely, which is also not cheap.

High furniture

Another not very successful approach is to choose cabinets that are just short of the ceiling as furniture for storing kitchen appliances and utensils. Yes, they visually stretch the entire room upwards and look beautiful.

But what about in practice? Will you have to stand on a stool every time to get a box of tea set or a blender from the top shelves, which you use once or twice a year?

Should I use a mop or attach a rag to a long handle to wash the doors from top to bottom and wipe the top of the cabinet at the same time?

If you don’t want to suffer in everyday life, it’s better not to buy such cabinets to decorate the kitchen and create storage space.

Small table

And the sixth solution, which is not suitable for everyone even if the kitchen area is small, is to put a small table in it, similar to those used in street cafes.

It will be quite possible to fit two people there, but if you have a large family, it is no longer convenient to put several plates of soup, a basket of bread and mugs of tea on such a table. And if more than three guests come, it will not be possible to seat them all at a small round table. What is better to do?

In small kitchens, it is easier to install a table with a folding top, which is easy to secure and return to its original position after the meal. Or consider such an option as expanding the window sill to use its area as a dining table.
