What is gratin and how to make it with broccoli

In short, gratin is a French dish baked in the oven until a crispy crust forms.

Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Yulia Arkhipova - a cook, fourth-category baker told how to prepare this dish with broccoli and what else can be added for taste.

You will need:

  • broccoli 200 g;
  • potatoes 7 pcs;
  • shrimp 300 g;
  • cheese 300 gr;
  • cream 250 ml;
  • butter 2 tbsp;
  • thyme (dried) 1 tsp;
  • nutmeg (ground) 1 tsp;
  • garlic 2 cloves;
  • salt and pepper to taste.

How to cook

1. Cut peeled raw potatoes into thin slices and boil them in salted water for 5-10 minutes after boiling.

2. If necessary, clean the shrimp, defrost them, and cut the large ones into several pieces.

3. Grease a baking dish with oil and put the potatoes and shrimps in layers. Add salt and pepper.

4. Add crushed garlic, nutmeg, thyme and butter to the cream, salt and pepper to taste and heat over medium heat, without bringing to a boil, then pour the sauce into the pan with the potatoes and shrimp.

5. Let the dish cool for 10 minutes, add half of the grated cheese, cover the dish with foil and bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 30-40 minutes.

At this time, boil the separated broccoli florets in salted water for 2-3 minutes. Then add them to the gratin, sprinkle with the remaining grated cheese and bake for another 10-15 minutes without foil. Enjoy!
