Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Yulia Arkhipova - a cook, fourth-class baker told how to successfully salt mackerel at home.
For salting, it is recommended to choose fish with an intact carcass and shiny skin.
The fish's eyes should not be cloudy or spotted. Fresh or frozen mackerel will do.
1. Clean the fish and cut it into small portions. The smaller, the faster it will be salted.
2. Mix salt and sugar, herbs, pepper and crushed cloves in a bowl.
3. The onion can be cut into rings or half rings, but wide ones are best.
4. Place a bay leaf on the bottom of the pickling container, then an onion, sprinkle it with a mixture of spices. Then place a layer of fish and so on.
5. When ready, close the jar with a lid and put it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
After this, the container needs to be turned over and the fish left in this form in the refrigerator for another hour.
You can serve it with onions and spices in which the fish was salted. Enjoy your meal!
