How to Make Potato Gratin: A Luxurious Side Dish

Not everyone knows what potato gratin is, let alone how to prepare this luxurious side dish.

In fact, it is a potato baked in the oven in a creamy cheese sauce. The perfect solution for a festive table.

Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Yulia Arkhipova - a cook, fourth-class baker told how to cook potato gratin.

You will need:

  • potatoes 6-8 pcs;
  • onion 1 pc;
  • garlic 2 cloves;
  • cream (20%) 200 ml;
  • milk (2.5%) 400 ml;
  • cheese 150 gr;
  • flour 3 tbsp;
  • butter 50 g;
  • vegetable oil 1 tbsp;
  • ground nutmeg, black pepper, salt to taste.

How to cook

1. Cut the peeled potatoes into thin round slices and grate the cheese on a coarse grater.

2. Peel and chop the onion and garlic, fry in vegetable oil until the vegetables become soft, then add butter, flour and mix.

3. After 3 minutes, pour in the milk, stir, add salt, nutmeg and cream. Stir and when the sauce becomes thick, turn off.

4. Place the potatoes vertically in a baking dish, pour in the sauce, sprinkle with cheese and place in an oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius for 55 minutes.

When ready, sprinkle with herbs and serve. Enjoy!
