How to cook Jewish-style herring: instead of the usual salad

National dishes are the easiest way to surprise guests. An example is Jewish-style herring.

This is not one of the salting options, but an independent dish that is recommended to be served instead of the “Herring under a fur coat” salad.

Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Yulia Arkhipova - a cook, fourth-class baker told how to cook.

You will need:

  • onions (bulb) 2 pcs;
  • apple 1 pc;
  • garlic 2 cloves;
  • raisins 2 tbsp;
  • pickled cucumbers 2 pcs;
  • dill to taste;
  • vegetable oil 50 ml;
  • vinegar (apple or wine) 1-2 tbsp;
  • marjoram 1 tsp;
  • thyme 1 tsp;
  • black pepper 1/4 tsp;
  • rosemary 1/4 tsp

How to cook

1. Clean the herring, gut it, remove the bones and cut into portions 2-2.5 cm wide.

2. Cut the onion into cubes and scald it with boiling water, placing it in a colander.

3. After the onion has cooled, mix it with the herring.

4. Peel the apple and cut the pickled cucumbers into cubes. When ready, add to the herring.

5. Wash the raisins, chop the dill, press the garlic and add to the salad.

Mix vegetable oil with vinegar, season the salad, stir and serve. Enjoy!

Herring is a genus of ray-finned fish that lives in the northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as well as in the Arctic Ocean.
