Anyone who has boiled eggs may have encountered an unusual phenomenon: on the surface of the tasty yolk, a green film is visible, which may be slimy.

It doesn't look quite edible.

Is it dangerous to eat such yolks? This will be discussed in today's article.

A green film does not always form when boiling eggs. If a film appears on the yolk, it means that the egg was not boiled correctly.

What causes plaque to form on egg yolk?

There is nothing special about this. The reason for the plaque is a chemical reaction that occurs under the shell when the egg is boiled.

It is worth knowing that chicken eggs contain a lot of iron, which is so necessary for humans. Eggs also contain a lot of sulfur and hydrogen.

When an egg is boiled, all these elements begin to interact with each other. The result of this interaction is the formation of iron sulfide.

It is worth saying that rotten eggs emit such a sharp and unpleasant aroma precisely because of the hydrogen sulfide, of which there is so much in them.
The blue or greenish film in the form of a rim on the yolk is the iron sulfide that has come out. It is not dangerous for humans.

You can eat the yolks without any fear, despite their unusual appearance. A person will still eat iron sulfide, because it is contained in the product, despite the usual yolk.

Chefs believe that if eggs were boiled with a change in the color of the yolk, then this is a violation, notes Yulia Arkhipova, an expert in the field of cooking for the online publication BelNovosti.

But, as already mentioned, this is not dangerous. And it will not affect the taste of the egg. To prevent the yolk from changing color, do not cook the eggs for more than 10 minutes.
