Beets are used to prepare many dishes, but the vegetable is often boiled beforehand.
At first glance, the task is not difficult. But if you do it incorrectly, the beet will lose its color, taste and some of its useful substances.
There are two downsides to cooking beets the usual way: beet scale and smell. That's why some housewives cook the vegetable in a bag. This method will help ensure that the ingredient does not lose its bright color.
Procedure
1. Wash the beetroot and then place the root vegetable in a bag. Important: each vegetable needs a separate bag.
2. Release as much air as possible from the bags and then tie a loose knot.
3. Next, put the beets in a saucepan and fill it with water. Put it on high heat to cook. When the water boils, reduce the flame.
4. The beets should be completely immersed in water.
It all depends on the size of the root vegetable. For example, a medium-sized vegetable (≈200 g) is boiled for about 50 minutes. A large root vegetable (400-500 g) needs at least 2 hours.
There is a trick with a microwave. The idea is almost the same, but before putting the beets in the bag, holes are made in the root vegetables with a fork.
Set the power to maximum. Medium-sized beets will cook in about 10 minutes.
