The final result in the form of sushi depends on whether the rice was cooked correctly.

Cooking sushi rice yourself is not as difficult as it may seem at first glance. To do this, you will need:

  • 200 g rice (if you don’t have special sushi rice, use round grain);
  • 200 ml of water;
  • 5 tsp. rice vinegar;
  • 5 tsp sugar;
  • 1 teaspoon salt.

Pour the rice into a bowl and cover with cold water, then rinse carefully and drain the cloudy liquid. This procedure should be repeated at least 4 times until the water becomes clear.

After this, drain the rice in a colander and leave it for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture. Now you can move the rice to a saucepan and pour in water.

After the contents of the pan boil, cover the pan with a lid and, setting the heat to minimum, cook for 15 minutes. Important: the lid cannot be opened during this process, so in order not to miss something important, it is better to use a glass "accessory".

After the specified time, turn off the stove and wait another 10 minutes without opening the lid, and in the meantime you can start making the dressing.

Pour the vinegar into a small saucepan, add sugar and salt and put on low heat. Stirring, dissolve the dry ingredients and immediately remove the dressing from the stove - it must not boil.

Wipe a wooden bowl with a damp towel (this will prevent the rice from sticking) and put the rice in it. Place a wooden spatula over the bowl and pour the dressing onto the spatula, from where it will spread over the rice.

When mixing the main ingredient for sushi, try not to damage it. After that, cover the bowl with a clean damp towel and wait until the rice cools down.
