What to do if you suspect a snake bite: don't try to suck out the venom

If you suspect that you have been bitten by a poisonous snake, call an ambulance immediately – do not wait until characteristic symptoms appear.

While you wait for the doctors, you should move away from the place where you encountered the reptile, so as not to give it the opportunity to attack you again.

Sit down or lie down to calm your pulse. The blood flow will slow down, which means the speed at which the poison spreads throughout the body will also slow down.

Try to keep the area affected by the bite below the level of the heart.

If there are rings, bracelets, watches and other accessories on the affected part of the body, it is better to remove them right now, before swelling begins.

If possible, wash the affected area with soap and water. After that, apply a dry bandage to the bite site.

When the paramedics arrive, tell them what the snake that bit you looked like, what time it attacked you, and when the swelling began to appear so that the specialists can choose the most effective treatment for you.

But trying to suck out the poison, as well as cutting the wound, is not worth it.

It is also forbidden to apply a tourniquet, apply ice or put the wound in water. Alcohol (if you think about drinking alcohol as a painkiller) and analgesics (these include aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.) are also prohibited.
