Age-related degradation of the nail apparatus is a very common phenomenon.

As the years go by, it becomes increasingly difficult for an older person to trim their toenails.

However, the problem can be minimized if you follow certain care rules.

How to Care for Toenails in Old Age

First, steaming before a pedicure. The simplest option is hot baths with soda (2 tablespoons per liter of water).

An alternative to the soda solution are infusions of medicinal herbs (oak bark, chamomile, succession, sage, calendula).

In difficult cases, baths can be done daily. Bedridden patients can make compresses with aloe or kombucha.

Secondly, it is important to properly care for the cuticle. It should not be cut, but carefully pushed back with a wooden stick after applying a softening cream.

Thirdly, proper trimming. It is necessary to use pedicure nippers with long blades.

To avoid cuts, do not place the nippers close to the skin. Trim in a straight line without cutting corners, giving the nail a spade-shaped or square shape, file in one direction with short movements. At the end, it is recommended to apply a moisturizer.
