Swedish experts have recently made an interesting statement. They are confident that chlorine does not need to be added to purify water.
As the experiment confirmed, over time, predatory Bdellovibrio bacteria appear in water without additives (they could be hidden in the biofilm), which destroy other microorganisms, but are safe for humans.
The study was conducted in the town of Weerberg.
New filters were installed there, preventing harmful elements from getting into the drinking water from groundwater. They also stopped adding chlorine to the water.
The findings were published in npj Clean Water .
As the authors noted in their work, over time the number of some bacteria in the water has sharply decreased, which means that it is possible to obtain safe water without adding additional elements.
But scientists noted that further testing was needed.
