Endocrinologist Antonina Gureeva named products that “slow down” the increase in blood sugar levels.
They are especially useful when it comes to the risk of developing type 2 diabetes (due to insufficient insulin production).
And insulin deficiency threatens to increase blood sugar levels to dangerous levels.
To avoid this, the expert recommends eating more whole plant foods, which she says are "useful for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes."
We need to think about the “food package,” that is, what the food we eat contains as a whole – what else it is connected to, and not just the one or two specific nutrients it contains, such as iron or protein, Gureeva was quoted as saying by MedikForum.
In addition to other “usefulness”, plant products contain a small amount of calories.
And the fiber they contain is especially effective for diabetes, as it can control blood sugar levels.
The endocrinologist named three specific products that effectively solve the problem.
These are tofu and soy protein, legumes (beans, lentils, chickpeas) and berries.
All of them help improve glucose levels and “insulin resistance,” the specialist noted.
