How to find your makeup artist
The good news is that trial and error has nothing to do with it.
1. Portfolio. It's great when a makeup artist has a beautiful album with lots of professional photos, but this says more about the talent of the photographer.
Plus, after the shoot, all photos are processed in editors, where at least makeup flaws will be corrected. Look for a specialist who posts photos of real-life work, too.
Same with models: it's nicer to look at beautiful people, but don't forget that makeup on a model, who also knows how to pose, is much simpler than on an average girl. Look in the portfolio of girls of your type and the makeup you want, that way you definitely won't go wrong.
2. Appearance. It should be pleasant for you. You should not choose a makeup artist by beauty, it does not speak about professional qualities. It is enough to look neat and well-groomed.
Make-up artists often have irregular working hours: for example, the arrival time for the bride's preparations is 4-5 am. If you don't need to go to a cosmetologist with 5 ml of hyaluronic acid in your lips for a natural look, then the appearance of a make-up artist is secondary.
3. Working tool. Ask what brands of cosmetics the makeup artist uses in her work, there should be predominantly professional makeup products, let's say luxury and middle, mass market as an exception, a few products.
No self-respecting makeup artist will pick up and work with cheap brushes from Aliexpress. If you are a beginner, then have several of them - the most necessary ones, but of a good brand.
4. Communication. It should be easy and understandable. An abundance of complex phrases from the professional lexicon rather indicates a low level. A good make-up artist can explain complex things simply. Diminutive and affectionate words are not welcome, names are not distorted. No "polish" or "powder".
5. Nuances. Before the session, you should be asked if you have any allergies and if you wear lenses. This is important for choosing the right cosmetic products.
