One of the problems that a cook may encounter when preparing cabbage rolls is the excessive toughness of the cabbage leaves.
It is very difficult to wrap the filling in such leaves.
Even if it works, the cabbage may break during stewing.
In addition, cabbage rolls made from tough leaves are not particularly tender or juicy.
That's why cooks have to soften the cabbage.
Usually the desired result is achieved by boiling the whole head of cabbage or individual leaves.
But you can do without using boiling water.
There is a simpler, but little-known way to soften cabbage. This approach was described by the expert of the online publication Belnovosti in the field of cooking, cook, fourth-class baker Yulia Arkhipova.
How to Easily Soften Cabbage Leaves
There is no need to cook or heat anything. You don't even have to rush to "disassemble" the head of cabbage into leaves.
It is enough to simply cut out the core, put the vegetable in a bag, and then in the freezer.
The cabbage should be kept in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
Next, you will need to defrost the vegetable and take it apart. As a result, you will see that the leaves have become very soft.
The disadvantage of the above-described method is its considerable duration.
Want to save time? Then simply wrap the cabbage in cling film and microwave for 6 minutes. An additional 2-3 minutes of heating may be needed.
