When buying a watermelon, you need to pay attention not only to its appearance.

It is difficult to determine the ripeness of a fruit solely by its appearance.

The 34th Central District Clinical Polyclinic of the Sovietsky District of Minsk told us what signs to look for.

Usually, people pay attention to the dry tail and a light spot on the side. However, these signs are not enough.

All watermelons have a dry tail, since they end up on the shelves two to three weeks after harvesting, noted the 34th polyclinic.

It is better to focus on the sound the watermelon makes when you tap it. In this case, you need to use the golden mean rule.

If the sound is dull, the watermelon is not ripe. If the fruit sounds hollow, like a drum, it may be overripe. If it is somewhere in between, it is the best option.
