A washing machine makes life a lot easier for many people. However, everyone has had the experience of clothes being left in the washing machine after the cycle has finished.
Many people think that there is nothing wrong with this, but this is not true at all. Such clothes must be washed again and you must know about the negative consequences.
There are several negative consequences that can be recalled:
1) If wet items are left in the drum for a long time, mold and various bacteria will begin to appear. As a result, subsequent washing will “infect” other items.
2) An unpleasant smell will appear from the clothes.
3) An unpleasant smell may also start to come directly from the drum. The most interesting thing is that such a smell can persist for a long time.
The consequences may seem minor, but they are not. Mold and unpleasant odor from washed clothes is a big problem that needs to be dealt with immediately.
If this happens, the following steps must be taken:
• restart the wash cycle, setting the highest temperature;
• immediately after washing, take out the items and hang them in the fresh air;
• wash the drum using citric acid or special products;
• wipe all rubber bands thoroughly;
• leave the washing machine doors open to allow it to dry thoroughly.
You can also add a little vinegar to the fabric softener compartment during washing. It neutralizes unpleasant odors and kills many microorganisms.
And if even after these manipulations an unpleasant odor comes from the washing machine, it is worth repeating the washing cycle, but without adding items (if possible).
Modern washing machines have a self-cleaning mode, you can also try using it.
